Movie Story

The story covers one day of a broken family that is gathered after the mother passing. At dawn, an abandoned mother slips way from a retirement house and decides to give herself death in order to reunite her family, even that this reunion would go only for the fallowing 24 hours… “There” tells the sad story of this separated family from Istanbul. In this first feature of Hakkı Kurtuluş and Melik Saraçoğlu, a hermitic father, a self-exiled son and a petit-bourgeoisie daughter settles their accounts in a dark island night where the family’s whole past resurfaces and all their unspoken secrets unfold.

 

Orada (English: There) is a 2009 Turkish drama film written, produced and directed by Hakkı Kurtuluş and Melik Saraçoğlu, which follows 24 hours in the life of a troubled family. The film, which went on nationwide general release across Turkey on December 25, 2009, has been screened at numerous international film festivals.

Orada Plot

When the matriarch of an Istanbul family dies in a home for the elderly, the son and the daughter bury their mother and set off to find their father, a recluse in the family house on one of the Princes’ Islands. As the three members of the family come together, it turns into a day of painful confrontations.
