Movie Story
Oğuz, gece saatlerinde program yapan bir radyo programcısıdır. Bir gece, Onur adında bir adam, kendisinden Eda adında bir kadın için The Alan Parsons Project’ten Old and Wise adlı şarkıyı çalmasını ister. Ertesi gün programı dinleyen arkadaşı Zuhal bunu kendisine anlattığında, Eda çok şaşıracaktır.
This is the short movie which opened the gates of the cinema world to Çağan Irmak, the whizz kid of the contemporary Turkish cinema. In this almost 30 min length short flick, Irmak tells the story of Oğuz (Erkan Can) who is a disc jockey for a night radio show named ‘Yanlızlar Saati ( Time for the Lonely). One night, a mysterious listener calls the show and wants Oguz to play ‘Old and Wise’ for some lady named Eda (Derya Alabora). Though Eda does not really listen to the show, a friend of hers, Zuhal (Naz Onel) lets her know that somebody named Onur called the show the other night and wanted a song for someone named ‘Eda’. When Eda hears the name of the song, she ends up at the show the following night. What startles her is that Onur, whom she was planning to marry actually passed away in a traffic accident a few years ago.
Though the movie does not sound like a masterpiece at first glance, it surely has an original script. Given the fact that this is Irmak’s debut to the cinema world, it deserves kudos but for a shot movie it’s a bit long. Though there is not an absolute rule, the description for ‘short movie’ can be used to describe any film that has a duration longer than one minute and shorter than 15 minutes. So this one could have been (still can be) turned into a well-grounded feature length movie. Other than that, I would expect better acting from Derya Alabora and Erkan Can. When there is a tincture of romance on the silver screen, what matters most is the chemistry , overall rapport between the leading actor and actress. It may be just me but I did not see any mutual attraction that felt real on the screen. Still, this movie should be seen certainly by anyone who likes Irmak’s work.
