Biography

After graduating from the geophysical engineering department of Istanbul University in 1983, Gül Dirican began working in journalism. She started in the research department of the weekly political magazine Nokta, where she soon became a correspondent, then transferred to Tempo, a weekly current affairs magazine, and was latterly with the Milliyet daily newspaper and cultural magazine as an arts critic. She began scriptwriting professionally in 2000, when she attended the script development workshops of the Mediterranean Film Institute with the project O Da Beni Seviyor (Summer Love), an experience she repeated in 2002-2003 with another feature project. As a member of the Kedi Writers’ Group since 2002, she has written scripts for several TV dramas and combined this with academic work as a tutor on the film & television masters programme at Bilgi University, at the arts management department of Yildiz Technical University and latterly for the newly launched Senaryo Stüdyosu workshops.
