Movie Story

A love poem and a critical investigation, OVERDRIVE explores Istanbul’s transition from ancient imperial capital to bustling modern megalopolis. Will the city renew itself once again, or succumb to uncontrolled motorization and urban growth?

This document tells the story of Istanbul – a problem that also appears in other mega-cities of the world – a rapidly growing population, and in particular, coping with car-centric policies dominating its development over the last 50 years.

Istanbul is now drowned in cars, although only some special elected people are given horse riding privileges instead of walking.

While 45% of their residents spend two or more hours each day between home and work, the enjoyment of living in this beautiful city is clouded by this congestion and other social and environmental problems.

At the same time, this documentary, both a love poem and a serious and sensitive research, examines the result of universal tendencies and trends on this city, which is such a special and complex history.

Istanbul, once the capital of the empire, now a vibrant megacity, will it renew itself, or will it give up in the face of this uncontrolled motorization and growing urbanization?
