Selen Uçer is an actress and assistant director, known for Can (2011), Contes d’Istanbul (2005) and Bornova Bornova (2009).
L. Selen Uçer graduated from Bosphorus University (Boğaziçi) in Istanbul, where she started acting with Bosphorus University Players, which is a high established and traditional institution in Turkey for acting. She also attended İstanbul State Conservatory Voice Training Department as a part-time student of Gül Sabar. In 2000 she was accepted as half-scholarship M.F.A. student at Roosevelt University in Chicago. She also joined the improve scene in Chicago, performed on several venues as a foreign improviser. After getting her masters degree in acting/theatre studies, she moved to NYC. She performed at Ensemble Studio Theatre as an intern actress, and wrote her own play ‘American Dream’. In 2005 she joined İstanbul Municipal Theatre. Her part in musical ‘Kantocu’ got her first nomination for Afife Jale awards. Then in 2008 she took part in Tracy Letts’ ‘BUG’ at Theatre DOT. In 2011 with her part in ‘CAM’ at Aysa Productions Theatre, she got the AFİFE JALE Awards-Best Actress in a supporting role and also an Audience award .In 2013,again at Aysa Production Theatre, she acted in Fabrice R. Lacan’s ‘Chien Chien’,which a two women play and got a national-wide acclaim and recognition.
In 2008 her first leading role in a featured movie ‘ARA’, written and directed by Ümit Ünal, in which she portrayed a confused native of Istanbul woman, with a French mother, who got stuck in ambitious modern social life turmoil and got lost in a spiritual vacuum, got her the Best Actress award at Internatıonal Adana Golden Boll Film Festival. In 2010 with her outrageous role as a half-Kurdish suicide bomber ‘A step into darkness’ by Atıl İnaç, which participated in film festivals worldwide she got the Best supporting actress award at Ankara Film Festival. In ‘CAN’ written and directed by Raşit Çelikezer, which got World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Prize at 2012 Sundance Film Festival, she played the role of Ayşe, a working-class single mother, which brought her the Best actress award at 18.Sadri Alışık Acting awards. Besides these she also acted in supporting parts or did guest appearances in movies such as ‘Anlat İstanbul’,‘Bornova Bornova’, ‘O..Çocukları’ ‘Circle’ ‘Kutsal bir Gün’
Nowadays she is acting in prime-time TV drama ‘Beni Böyle Sev’ at TRT channel. Some of the prime time TV projects she was in, are ‘İffet’ ‘Hanımın Çiftliği’ ‘Deli Saraylı’ ‘1001 Gece’(guest) and ‘Düğün Şarkıcısı’
